WALKING PILGRIMAGES IN THE HOLY LAND
DAY 1 / 17 JAN (SUN): ASSEMBLE KLIA
- For Borneo participants, assemble at airport for flight to KLIA.
- Meet and assemble at KLIA 4 hours before departure for check in.
- Flight departs for Tel Aviv via Dubai.
DAY 2 / 18 JAN (MON): DUBAI - TEL AVIV - BETHLEHEM (D)
- Upon arrival in Tel Aviv, collect baggage and clear immigration and customs.
- Drive to Bethlehem (approx. 1h).
- Visit Chapel of the Shepherds' Field where Angels announcing the birth of Christ - Franciscan chapel built in 1953, known for biblical murals & topped by a glass dome & bronze angel.
- Proceed to Church of the Nativity - Heritage site of a 4th-century church said to be built above a cave in which Jesus was born.
- Check in hotel.
- Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.
DAY 3 / 19 JAN (TUE): THE HIDDEN LIFE OF JESUS NAZARETH WALK (B/L/D)
- Breakfast in hotel and check out. Drive to Haifa and visit Mt Carmel - Scenic mountain range hovering over 15 miles of Israel's Mediterranean coast with a 550m peak.
- Lunch and proceed to Nazareth (approx. 2h 10m).
- Proceed with Nazareth Walk: 3-5km.
- Visit the Church of the Annunciation - where the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. St Joseph's Church - Roman Catholic church built in the Romanesque Revival style in 1914 on the site of old churches. Mary's Well - Christian site where the Angel Gabriel informed the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to Jesus. Proceed to Old Nazareth streets.
- Check in hotel, dinner and overnight in Nazareth.
DAY 4 / 20 JAN (WED): THE FIRST MIRACLE CANA WALK (B/L/D)
- Breakfast at hotel.
- Proceed for Cana Walk: 2-4km.
- Visit the Wedding Church and renew wedding vows - where Jesus did his first miracle of changing water into wine.
- Renewal of Marriage vows.
- Proceed to walk through the ancient village.
- After lunch, visit River Jordan - Baptismal Site of Jesus by Bus.
- Visit Mt Tabor - Many Christians believe that the Transfiguration of Jesus took place on this dome-shaped mountain.
- Church of Transfiguration - Mountaintop Catholic church built on 4th century foundations, known for its views & mosaics. Dinner and overnight.
DAY 5 / 21 JAN (THU): LIVING THE BEATITUDES MT BEATITUDES TO CAPERNAUM WALK (B/L/D)
- Breakfast at hotel.
- Proceed with a walk from Mt of Beatitudes to Capernaum: 3-4 km.
- Continue to visit Mt of Beatitudes - This storied hill is where Jesus is believed to have delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Church of Tabgha (Church of the Loaves and Fishes) - Popular biblical site on the shores of the Sea of Galilee featuring a church known for its mosaics.
- Visit Magdala - was a fishing town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee during the time of Jesus.
- Proceed for St. Peter's Fish lunch.
- Quiet walk towards Capernaum - was a fishing village established during the time of the Hasmoneans in Israel, located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee. It had a population of about 1,500 in the 1st century AD. Archaeological excavations have revealed two ancient synagogues built successively at the same spot.
- Visit Church of Peter Primacy - Simple church at the site believed to be where Jesus multiplied loaves & fishes to feed the masses.
- Boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.
- Back to hotel, dinner and overnight.
DAY 6 / 22 JAN (FRI): JERICHO - JERUSALEM (B/L/D)
- Breakfast at hotel & check out. Drive down to Jericho - the world's oldest city conquered by Joshua.
- View Mount of Temptations - Rugged mount within the Judean Desert known for its Dead Sea views & cliffside monastery.
- Lunch.
- View Sykomora Zacheusza tree.
- Visit Qumran National Park - Remains of the landmark, 2000-year-old town where the Dead Sea Scrolls were written & unearthed. Experience the Dead Sea and float in the water.
- Check in hotel.
- Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
DAY 7 / 23 JAN (SAT): MT OLIVES - MT ZION (B/L/D)
- Breakfast at hotel.
- Proceed to visit Mount of Olives - Historic mountain referenced in the Old & New Testaments of the Bible, now a cemetery & sacred spot.
- Visit to the Chapel of the Ascension - Popular pilgrimage destination on a mountain believed to be the site of Jesus' ascension to heaven. Pater Noster Church - Ancient Catholic church & monastery complex said to be the site of where Jesus taught his disciples. Commence the Palm Sunday Walk, entering the Byzantine church of Dominus Flevit Church - Antonio Barluzzi designed this church as a pilgrimage site near to a Byzantine tomb complex. Church of All Nations - Catholic church built in 1924, with colorful mosaics & a rock where Jesus is said to have prayed.
- Garden of Gethsemane - This olive garden, now adjacent to a Franciscan church, figures prominently into Christian texts.
- Enter Jerusalem - Jerusalem is a city in the Southern Levant, on a plateau in the Judaean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea. It is one of the oldest cities in the world and is considered a holy city to the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. After lunch, proceed to Mount Zion - Hill rising to 2,500 ft., with a Benedictine abbey, Holocaust museum, cemetery & biblical landmarks. Visit Chuch of St Peter in Galicantu and the Cenacle, Room of the Last Supper - Striking 1931 hillside church commemorating the denial of Jesus by the apostle Peter. Dormition Abbey - Christian complex built atop the ruins of a Byzantine church on the site of the Virgin Mary's death. Wailing Wall - Remnant of the ancient wall of the Temple courtyard, a sacred site of Jewish prayer & pilgrimage.
- Dinner and overnight.
DAY 8 / 24 JAN (SUN): THE WAY OF THE CROSS VIA DOLOROSA WALK (B/L/D)
- Breakfast at hotel.
- Via Dolorosa walk: Approx 1km. Proceed to the Old City of Jerusalem.
- Visit St Anne's Church, home of the Virgin Mary - Restored Romanesque church built by the Crusaders in 1138 & sought out by choirs for its acoustics.
- Continue to Via Dolorosa (the 14 stations) and the Church of Holy Sepulchre - Basilica dating to the 4th century that is marked by some Christians as the site of Jesus's tomb. After lunch, proceed to Emmaus - Jesus walked with two disciples on the road to Emmaus after his resurrection. Visit Emmaus Church.
- Back to Jerusalem.
- Dinner and overnight.
DAY 9 / 25 JAN (MON): DEPARTURE (B)
- Breakfast at hotel and check out. Transfer to airport for flight back to Kuala Lumpur.
DAY 10 / 26 JAN (TUE): KLIA / BORNEO
- Arrive KLIA/SIN with fond memories of your pilgrimage. For Borneo participants, onward flight to your final destination.
